This kind of investigation is a NON-destructive one and it allows to preserve the longevity of materials, surfaces of artistic value and historical buildings.
Moreover, we know that the conservation of cultural heritage involves the diagnosis of several ranges of materials, and that the analysis of consolidation treatments is very important: the DRMS cordless is used to verify the effectiveness of such treatments, the drilling resistance of materials, micro-structural modifications and the state of surfaces of different materials.

This is a typical DRMS Cordless test result which shows the capability of the system to evaluate the drilling resistance in the depth of the material, and to compare the results in different points. The system allows both laboratory tests and on site measurements: Cultural Heritage conservation required several on site test, and the DRMS has a very good portability since it’s quite light (approx. 5 kg.) to be transported in hard-access zones, with possibility to carry out measurements in different directions.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The DRMS works by drilling the materials with specific diamond drill bits. In case of outdoor and on-site measurements, the equipment integrates power battery to the unit for a good autonomy.
In a Cultural Heritage conservation contest, the DRMS Cordless can perform precise drilling resistance measurements, to get an accurate evaluation of the materials force and toughness.
Example of some tests made in Florence at the English cemetery to evaluate the state of conservation of materials. In this way it’s possible to decide if the quality of the material is good or not, and if the material has to be consolidated with different treatments, that can be evaluated with the DRMS again.
